Swimming Lessons at Tring Sports Centre

Tring Sports Centre is a great environment in which our child can learn to swim. We follow the Swim England learn to swim framework to deliver the best lessons possible, with a maximum of 6 children per class. Our teachers are dedicated to making the lessons fun, whilst teaching this valuable life skill. Specialised for ages 3+, our classes begin at pre-school and run up to Stage 7.

Due to the huge demand for swimming lessons, we normally operate a waiting list.
So our best advice if you want your child to learn to swim at Tring, is to register early.

“My daughters have been swimming at Tring for a few years and have progressed quickly through the stages despite missing so much pool time during lockdown. The teachers are all fantastic and my daughters are happy, confident swimmers who look forward to their lessons every week.”

Sandy

“I’d really recommend the Tring swim crash courses.  Both my boys have loved it, had lots of fun and improved both their swimming skills and their confidence so much by the end of the week. They can’t wait to come back!”

Caroline

“My daughter has just started swimming lessons for the first time and she has really settled in quickly and her confidence is growing so quickly too.”

Shelly

“The swim teacher has literally only had I think 3-4 lessons with my daughter but having watched each one I have so much admiration and respect for what the swimming teachers do and how hard they work.”

Pre School and Stage 1

Pre school: If your child is 3-4 years old and hasn’t swum before, then this is the stage for them. It will teach confidence and independence.

Stage 1: For children 4 years + who have never been swimming before and for those who still need floats and teachers’ help. It will teach them to be confident in and around water and how to kick without the use of a float.

Stage 2 and Stage 3

Stage 2: This level will help develop water confidence, leg kick and introduce the use of their arms on their front and back. At then end of this stage they will be able to swim five metres on both their front and their back using arms and legs.

Stage 3: Here, they’ll be taught towards the end goal of being able to swim unaided for 10 metres on both their front and back. They’ll be supported on this journey by being introduced to aquatic breathing and different types of aquatic mobility.

Stage 4 and Stage 5

Stage 4: Here your child some of the basic swimming techniques for all four strokes, including treading water and swimming underwater in the deep end. Your child will be working towards being able to swim 20 metres unaided on their front and back.

Stage 5:  As well as working towards being able to swim 25 metres on their front and back, this stage will begin to develop your child’s stroke technique to a higher standard, making them even more confident in the water.

Stage 6 and Stage 7

Stage 6: During this stage, your child will learn to swim 100 metres backstroke and front crawl as well as beginning to get a greater understanding of breaststroke and butterfly – in which your child will also have to demonstrate competence in order to attain this level of accreditation.

Stage 7:  At this stage of our children’s swimming lessons programme, we will start introducing your child to touch turns, whilst improving their ability in butterfly and increasing the distance they can swim to 200 metres.
